Pass Box

A pass box is an auxiliary device for clean rooms, mainly used for the transfer of items between clean areas and non-clean areas or between areas with different cleanliness levels. It can effectively reduce the number of times the doors of clean rooms are opened and minimize the degree of contamination to the clean rooms.

DESCRIPTION

Working Principle

    1. Pass boxes generally have two types of interlocking mechanisms: mechanical interlocking and electronic interlocking. For mechanical interlocking, a mechanical device is used to ensure that the two doors of the pass box cannot be opened simultaneously. When one door is opened, the other door will be locked by the mechanical structure. As for electronic interlocking, an electronic control system is utilized, with sensors and other devices to detect the status of the doors. Only when one door is closed can the other door be opened. In this way, it can be ensured that the environments on both sides will not be directly connected during the process of item transfer, thus preventing cross-contamination.
    2. In addition, some pass boxes are also equipped with an air purification system. After items are placed in the pass box, the purification system will filter and circulate the air inside the pass box, further reducing the amount of dust and microorganisms brought into the clean area.




Features

    1. Preventing Cross-Contamination: Through the interlocking devices, it is ensured that the air between clean areas and non-clean areas or between areas with different cleanliness levels will not be directly mixed, effectively preventing the transfer of pollutants. For example, when a pass box is used between the clean workshop and the ordinary warehouse in a pharmaceutical factory, it can prevent dust and microorganisms in the warehouse from entering the clean workshop.
    2. Convenience and Efficiency: The setting of pass boxes makes the transfer of items more convenient. There is no need for personnel to frequently enter and exit clean rooms, reducing the interference to the clean environment. In an electronic chip manufacturing workshop, workers can quickly transfer raw materials or tools through pass boxes, improving work efficiency.
    3. Good Sealing: High-quality pass boxes have good sealing performance and can effectively block external dust, air and moisture from entering the interior of the pass boxes. This is very important for maintaining the clean environment inside the pass boxes and protecting the transferred items.

    1. Pharmaceutical Industry: During the production process of drugs, raw materials, packaging materials and finished products need to be transferred between workshops with different cleanliness levels. Pass boxes can ensure that drugs are not contaminated during the transfer process and meet the requirements of the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) for drug production.
    2. Electronic Industry: The manufacturing of electronic components has a very high requirement for environmental cleanliness. Pass boxes are used to transfer precision components such as chips and circuit boards between different clean areas to prevent dust particles from adhering to the surface of the components and affecting product quality.
    3. Food Processing Industry: Raw materials and packaging materials are transferred between the clean workshops and non-clean areas in food production. For example, when a pass box is used between a sterile food packaging workshop and a raw material warehouse, it helps to maintain the hygiene and safety of food.
    4. Medical and Health Field: Medical devices and drugs are transferred between clean areas such as operating rooms and sterile wards and ordinary areas in hospitals. For example, when a pass box is set up between an operating room and an instrument disinfection room, it can ensure that instruments are not contaminated when entering the operating room after disinfection.

 

Classification

    1. Classification by Interlocking Method: It can be divided into mechanically interlocked pass boxes and electronically interlocked pass boxes. Mechanically interlocked pass boxes have a relatively simple structure, lower cost and high reliability. Electronically interlocked pass boxes can achieve more complex control functions, such as being connected to the overall control system of the clean room for remote monitoring.
    2. Classification by Usage Environment: There are ordinary pass boxes and clean pass boxes. Ordinary pass boxes are suitable for the transfer of items in general environments where there is no high requirement for cleanliness. Clean pass boxes are mainly used for the transfer of items between clean rooms and themselves also have certain cleaning functions. For example, the interior is made of stainless steel, which is easy to clean and has good sealing performance, meeting the usage requirements of areas with different cleanliness levels.
    3. Classification by Function: They can be divided into ordinary pass boxes, air shower pass boxes and sterilization pass boxes. Ordinary pass boxes mainly play the role of isolating and transferring items. Air shower pass boxes are equipped with an air shower device on the basis of ordinary ones. When items are placed in them, the air shower device will blow out clean air that has been filtered by a high-efficiency filter to blow off dust and other pollutants on the surface of the items. Sterilization pass boxes are equipped with sterilization equipment such as ultraviolet lamps inside the pass boxes, which can sterilize the transferred items and are suitable for occasions with very high requirements for sterility.
